LightWave [9.x] Tutorial: Creating a Starfield without Geometry
Mittwoch, 25. März 2009
Open „Backdrop Options“ and choose „Textured Environment“ as shown on the left.
Add „multiFractal„ to create some variations for the brightness of the stars and to get more depth.
You don’t have to add an alpha channel here but in my case I needed to have more control over the fractal layer.
Now add a „Crust“ layer for - you guessed it - the stars. Simple as that, you can repeat this step for more variations of the stars in brightness, size and position.
Copy the first layer and paste it at the top of the list and change its color to white (this layer is the same which you have added first except for the color). It makes the stars more visible where the fractals are.
That’s it. So you now have a good looking basic starfield without creating geometry, which renders fast and is very easy to change.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
