LightWave [9.x] Tutorial: Creating a Starfield without Geometry

Mittwoch, 25. März 2009

Backdrop Options -> Textured EnvironmentOpen „Backdrop Options“ and choose „Textured Environment“ as shown on the left.

Multi Fractal LayerAdd „multiFractal„ to create some variations for the brightness of the stars and to get more depth.

Pitch Alpha Layer for Multi Fractal LayerYou don’t have to add an alpha channel here but in my case I needed to have more control over the fractal layer.

Crust LayerNow add a „Crust“ layer for - you guessed it - the stars. Simple as that, you can repeat this step for more variations of the stars in brightness, size and position.

Alpha Layer for Multi Fractal LayerCopy the first layer and paste it at the top of the list and change its color to white (this layer is the same which you have added first except for the color). It makes the stars more visible where the fractals are.

The StarfieldThat’s it. So you now have a good looking basic starfield without creating geometry, which renders fast and is very easy to change.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
